ST. LOUIS, MO – A 6-year-old St. Louis boy, affectionately referred to as “Lil J,” took to Facebook to plead for gun violence to end in a video that quickly went viral. For a solid four minutes, Lil J begged for peace and outlined how gun violence plagues his community. He articulately explained why kids should be focused on their education, and said adults should be “happy” and not “stressful” because people are getting shot.
Enter G.O.O.D. Music powerhouse Pusha T. After seeing the heartfelt video, he not only penned a letter to the child addressing his concerns, but also decided to set up a college fund in Lil J’s name.
“I started this thing called a college fund for you …it’s for when you grow up a little,” Pusha T wrote in an Instagram post. “You don’t have to worry about it now but when you do need it, it’s there for you.”
Elsewhere in the letter, he explained in detail how Lil J’s words touched him.
“I saw your video and I’m really sorry that you are having to deal with people shooting guns and hurting others where you live,” he said. “A lot of people can’t imagine how hard it is being a kid where you are from, If I were you, I would be scared too. But I thought it was very brave of you to speak up and try to help your family, friends, and community. There a lot of 6yr olds all over the United States who are scared just like you and guess who their Super Hero is…YOU!! Your video really woke me up. You are a thoughtful and smart kid at such a young age already, I can tell.”
Pusha T also mentioned he was sending Lil J and his cousins to Six Flags Amusement Park in St. Louis, and insisted they start summer camp at the Boys and Girls Club upon their return, so he can “enjoy being a 6-year-old.”
