To celebrate Black History Month in February, Nas is using his clothing line to support children and education. The Queens rhymer has an apparel company called HSTRY and he’s taking his brand to elevate Black History.
The “BLK HSTRY Collection 2017” features T-shirts, crewnecks, dad hats and a tote bag. The line also has a dashikis shirt with the empowering words “Black Don’t Crack” and tees that read “I’m Black and I’m Proud.” The collection also includes pro-black recreations of classic cartoon characters of Charlie Brown, Bart Simpson and the Pink Panther.
“I used to low-key cringe when Black History Month came around. It felt like a slap in face with all the hell we catch daily,” said Nas via a statement to HuffPost. “This collection is about turning things around and instilling positivity. Celebrating being Black in a loud and fun way. Taking a much-needed moment to be proud of the achievements we have made, our colorful culture, black royalty and excellence from the past, present, and future.”
A portion of the sales from the collection will go to the National Black Child Development Institute, which provides assistance to black children through training, education, early childhood care and family involvement.
