In late October, Bryson Tiller shared via Instagram that his upcoming album, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed breakout Trapsoul, was near completion. “Album almost done,” he wrote then. With a tweet sent Tuesday evening (Jan. 17), Tiller gave fans their first update since, revealing the album’s title and saying the work is not yet done.
“I’m working on this album called True to Self, non-stop until it’s finished. then it’s yours,” Bryson wrote. Trapsoul was first released in October of 2015, though Tiller is still riding that wave, his song “Exchange” off of it nominated for a Best R&B Song Grammy.
In the way of new music, Pen Griffey dropped “Let Me Explain,” which is expected to be included on True to Self, in mid-October, and has been relatively quiet since. Last year, he guested on Travis Scott and DJ Khaled’s albums, popping up on the Gucci Mane single “Drove U Crazy” in November as well.
Since emerging as one of the leading new voices in R&B, Tiller has been an in-demand name, with a December Twitter post hinting at a potential collaboration with Drake. “Started some vibes with Drake today. more life,” the Kentucky singer wrote on Twitter. As More Life and True to Self continue to take shape, listeners will be eager to hear any and all updates, the two releases some of the most anticipated for the new year.
